The Balearic Islands are a collection of islands located off Spain's coast. The most famous are Mallorca, Menorca, and Ibiza. In addition to Marbella, the Balearic Islands have always been the premier tourist destination for the rich and famous. For example, the Spanish royal family visits their summer residence in Palma de Mallorca every year. The Spaniards have grown up watching their royals enjoy themselves by the sea and attend sailing championships in the port of Palma. The Balearic Islands have managed to keep the image of it being an exclusive tourist destination, while it has opened up for mass tourism, especially for the German market. The Balearic Islands is the second most popular tourist destination in Spain. Every year about 10 million tourists visit the Balearic Islands, which is an impressive figure, considering that the islands have one million permanent inhabitants. Each island has its own personality and character, which means that a house hunter has a variety to choose from. In Mallorca, Palma stands for the cosmopolitan, cultural and international flavours while the rest of the island offers rolling countryside, rugged coastline and small medieval villages. Fewer tourists visit Menorca meaning you can enjoy almost empty beaches and a more relaxed pace. Formentera is another, perhaps a little less known island. Its natural environment is beautiful and protected and the island is surrounded by turquoise waters. The atmosphere reminds us a little of the hippie-era. And then we come to Ibiza, yes, what is there to say about Ibiza? In Ibiza you can party in the coolest clubs to the very latest music but also find luxurious places where you can enjoy absolute peace and quiet. Whatever you are looking for, let one of the islands of the Balearics be the answer.
