Blanes is a tourist town, situated approximately 70 kilometres along the coast north of Barcelona and about 100 kilometres south of the French border. Blanes used to be an old fishing town and it has retained much of its former charm. The town still has a working harbour and it is fascinating to sit and watch the fishing boats coming in and going out. Would it suit you to go looking for a property for sale in Blanes? The inhabitants are predominately Spanish, and it is a well-kept and nice town. There are approximately 40 000 inhabitants in Blanes and many, many more during the summer months when the tourists arrive, often from Barcelona. The town has beautiful beaches and a lovely beach promenade. But there is also a charming, old town centre, interesting churches and old monuments. Not far from the town, you will find some of Europe’s finest botanical gardens. The largest park, Jardi Botanic Marimurtra, is situated on a hill top with beautiful views over the coast and the sea. A very beautiful, and long, outdoor staircase takes you up to the top. Close by, you can find Pinya de Rosa, a park with a splendid collection of cactuses, as well as the park Santa Clotilde in roman Italian style. You can visit all three of the parks in one day and if you don’t want to walk, there is a bus that will take you between the parks. San Juan is the name for the small mountain outside Blanes, and it is also the name of the castle perched on the top of the mountain. It is a lovely walk there and it is well worth a visit. During the summer, there is a large international pyrotechnical festival in Blanes which is a must if you like fireworks. All in all, Blanes is an excellent choice in which to go looking for a property for sale if you want an easy living away from the big city but in close proximity.
