La Palma

La isla bonita

La Palma is an out of this world place to look for a property for sale. If you decide to buy your home away from home in La Palma, you will be living in a very uncanny and unique environment, where it is possible to hike across almost the whole island by hopping from volcano to volcano.

Indeed, La Palma is a relatively small island (708 km2) in the northeastern tip of the archipelago, which, like the other Canary Islands, have been formed by volcanic eruption. At the northern part of the island, the caldera of the largest volcano, the Taburiente, spreads out into what has become a protected area and National Park, as well as a Unesco Biosphere Reserve. Needless to say, this is a place whose natural beauty makes all visitors gape in awe. Here, you can take a look at the current state of a huge Caldera outgrown with forestry from Mirador de La Cumbrecita, bathe yourself in colored waterfalls or take hikes among monumental pine trees. Around the North, you will find El Roque de los Muchachos at a height of 2400 meters, one of the most modern and complete astronomical observatories in the world. Due to its height and almost non-existing luminic contamination, this National Park is considered as one of the best places in the world for star gazing. Camping under this fully populated sky is a wonderful experience. And if you head on South, then the Ruta de los Volcanes starts. 22 kilometers of hiking routes along the rocky spinal cord of the island, where you walk from eruption to eruption and finally reward yourself for all that hiking effort with a dive in the thermal waters of Balneario Fuencaliente. La Palma is known in the Canary Islands with the maybe a little plain but straightforward nickname of La isla bonita. This island is indeed rich with natural beauty, not only along its volcanic route but also in places like the Bosque de los Tilos, also a Unesco Biosphere Reserve. This is a hiking paradise across the Canary Islands’ largest forest, with incredible tunnels and water streams. And if you are longing for sea beauty, then you should head towards one of the islands towns, such as the capital, Santa Cruz de la Capital or San Andrés y Sauces. Besides enjoying the traditional Canarian architecture of these towns, which remains untainted in many of its streets, you can also find exclusive strips of wonderful volcanic black sand beaches that are yours to enjoy without suffering the massification of the larger islands. And if you want to have a taste of a very special luxury, you can dive into one of the natural sea water pools that are to be found along La Palma’s coast. The most recommended one is El Charco Azul near Punta Espíndola. La Palma is a natural paradise that recalls very little of the touristic resorts that spread along the South of Tenerife or Gran Canaria. There are no large contingents of expats here who have decided to buy a property in La Palma. However, the real estate supply is also not abundant here, and for sure do not expect to find new development promotions of a large batch of modern apartments. Along some apartments, you will mostly find Canarian style traditional houses, as well as some rural properties that are often in need of refurbishment. But if you are willing to do the work and find a property for sale in La Palma that is right for you, you can be assured that you will be living in heaven on Earth.
