Mallorca North

The Balearic Tuscany

The northern part of the island has some hidden gems on offer: impressive cliffs, long sandy beaches and hidden coves can easily make us think that we have found paradise. Located in a spectacular bay of golden sand, the historic town of Pollença has a charm that, at first glance, reminds us of Italian Tuscany. Taking a stroll at night, getting lost in the narrow streets is practically a must. Its medieval houses, built in stone, are signs of the most prosperous era of Pollença, when around the thirteenth century the Christians pushed the Arabs from the city. The mix of both cultures has made Pollença rich in cultural and gastronomic tradition. If you happen to be in the area in August, you don’t want to miss the re-enactment of the 1550-battle between the Moors and the Christians. The inhabitants of Pollença go out of their way to recreate that historic moment in the most spectacular way. Whether for inspiration or simply for breathing peace and quiet, the magic of this idyllic town once attracted historical figures such as Winston Churchill and Agatha Christie. Do not miss to visit the Illa D'Or hotel where the British writer used to spend her summers, a place that would later be mentioned in her short story "Problem at Pollensa Bay".

Spectacular views of Cap de Formentor

Just a few kilometres northeast of Pollença, you can enjoy Cap de Formentor. Be sure not to forget your camera as this peninsula offers one of the most impressive views of the whole island. If cliffs and rocky landscapes are not really your thing, you can wait for your friends in the shade of the pine forests on Formentor Beach.

Even more history in Alcudia

A little further east of Pollença, we find the neighbouring Alcudia. The walled Roman enclave has a great cultural offering such as concerts, a busy market and medieval fiestas, as well as a lively port. In fact, the number of visitors to Alcudia are so great that it makes the town one of the most visited places in Mallorca.
