Tarifa and Campo De Gibraltar

Where both seas meet

Campo de Gibraltar is the name for the most oriental region of the Province of Cádiz, and this includes all the Mediterranean seaside of the Costa de la Luz. The origin of this name comes from the name of the famous Rock, nowadays controlled by the British, and whose majestic profile can be seen from large areas of the region, as well as from Estepona and Marbella and other towns in Costa del Sol. The international visitor wishing to buy a house in Campo de Gibraltar will do well avoiding the two largest cities, Algeciras and La Línea. Their biggest advantage is their proximity to the Rock, which can be a plus for those who have a stable job in the British territory. However, except in some luxury communities, these two towns are surely much less charming for the purpose of building a new life by the sea than other beautiful villages in La Costa de la Luz. Nevertheless, this does not mean that Campo de Gibraltar does not offer good options for the expat who is looking to buy a home. At the southernmost point of the area (and, in fact, of Europe), Tarifa has become the hotspot for European fans of surfing, windsurfing and kite-surfing, since it has the most favorable. Furthermore, those who seek a more bucolic environment, could also look fora property for sale in the beautiful villages of Jimena de la Frontera or Castellar de la Frontera.

A surfer's paradise

Tarifa is the meeting point between the Mediterranean sea and the Atlantic ocean, and this is the reason why the strait that separates it from Africa is known for its violent waves and strong winds. The winds of Tarifa are famous all over the world, and for this reason its beaches have become a usual spot for international competitions of any type of surfing sport. This can be appreciated during a first walk around town, in which the high number of Kitesurfing schools suggests that this sport has become the authentic lifestyle of Tarifa. In addition, we can also find golf, climbing or horseback riding. Tarifa is the ideal destination for the sportsman tourist. Attracted to Tarifa due to its surfing destination fame, many international visitors arrive each year, eager to try its variety of sporting events, and sample the cafés and pubs that can be found throughout the town. This has transformed this typical Andalusian village into an endearing young environment, maybe even a tad alternative and chill-out. The international visitor who wants to buy a property in Tarifa is usually young and sporty, and will seek to make the most out of its beaches and enjoy its nightlife. Tarifa does not have large population (no more than 18,000 habitants), and the demand for properties is higher than what real estate companies offer. The family oriented buyer should keep in mind that the greatest asset of Tarifa, the wind, can also be extremely annoying on a quiet beach day with the children (especially when the wind blows from the east, the so called “levante”). Nonetheless, Tarifa’s charms are undeniable. Why not try it?

The bucolic life in an authentic Andalussian town

If Tarifa's sporting lifestyle is not the most suitable for you, Campo de Gibraltar offers other rural places where you can live a more peaceful and integrated life with the native population. Among them, we highlight Castellar de la Frontera and Jimena de la Frontera, both with impressive Moorish fortresses from the times of the Reconquista. Those who want to buy a property in Jimena or Castellar will find here a heaven of tranquility where they can enjoy a family life. Both towns are part of the Alcornocales National Park, which provides great opportunities for hiking or views of the local flora and fauna. And families with children can rest assured: Sotogrande, and its prestigious international school, is only a few kilometers away…
