The town of Ronda dominates the landscape of an impressive mountainous environment, the Serranía de Ronda. With a population of 35,000 inhabitants, Ronda is the most visited town in the province of Malaga. There is a reason why it is almost impossible to walk throughout the streets of Ronda without crossing a group of tourist: the town has unique landscapes to offer. Ronda extends to the edge of an impressive gorge, the Tajo de Ronda. From here, the visitor can gaze upon impressive natural views. El Tajo can be crossed using the Puente Nuevo bridge, a construction dating from the 18th century and certainly the most outstanding monument of Ronda. The first version of the bridge collapsed six years after it was built, killing 50 people. The current “New Bridge” is over 250 years old and is a beautiful architectural marvel that connects the old historical city center with the new area of town.
In the larger and more modern part of Ronda, you cannot miss one of the oldest bull rings in Spain, which was constructed in the 18th century. Even if you are not a bullfighting enthusiast, this is a monument that is worth visiting. The well-known filmmaker Orson Wells and writer Ernest Hemingway were both fascinated by the city of Ronda and the bullfighting culture that surrounds it, to the point that they were honored with their statues being built in the square. If the attractions of Ronda are not enough, this city is also a point of entrance into the Route of the White Villages of the Sierra de Cádiz. There is nothing like using Ronda as a basecamp and driving though wonderful mountain towns such as Grazalema, Setenil de las Bodegas or Zahara de la Sierra. There are plenty of valid reasons to consider Ronda as one of the main tourist centers of Andalusia.
