L´Hospitalet de l´Infant

A cosy Spanish beach enclave with deep historic roots

L'Hospitalet de l'Infant is located in the catalan province of Tarragona and has approximately 6000 inhabitants. That number increases greatly during the summer. The area has got its name from a hospital founded by Infant Pere in 1344. The old hospital building is located in a passage close to the old Via Augusta. Its architecture is an eclectic mix that reflects its long history. The building is reinforced to stand strong against enemies and the walls are 12 metres tall and the turrets 18 metres. The initial plan was for six turrets but in the end only four were build. The building is windowless but there are a few smaller openings. The area lives mainly off tourism and holds three very beautiful beaches. They have all been awarded Blue Flags for cleanliness and excellent facilities. On the outskirts, you will find naturist beach Playa El Torne. It is considered one of the largest and nicest in all of Spain. If you go looking for a property to buy in L'Hospitalet de l'Infant, this means that you have chosen to inmerse yourself in a Spanish lifestyle, since the community here is predominantly Spanish. Although you can easily get to the larger cities of Tarragona and Barcelona, you can enjoy in l'Hospitalet the peace and quiet in your own little Spanish enclave.
