Mojácar

The less known corner to enjoy the good life

The little gem Mojacar on Costa de Almeria is divided into two parts. Mojacar Pueblo is a white washed typical Andalucian village perched on the side of Sierra Cabrera. By the foot of the mountain, along the sea you will find Mojacar Playa. Coming from the south, from Carboneras you will drive along a winding road on the side of the mountain with stunning views of the blue Mediterranean Sea and the mountains. The two areas are distinctly different but not far apart and if you choose to look for a property for sale in Mojacar Pueblo the playa is within easy reach and vice versa.

The British newspaper The Telegraph has selected Mojacar to one of its favourite places in the world where to live the good life. Many Spaniards, perhaps especially from Madrid, chose Mojacar as their favourite holiday spot. However, it is a living community all year round. There are a lot of British and Dutch people living in the Mojacar area permanently. It is even common for restaurants to offer two sittings, one for the earlier international guests and one later for the Spanish guests. As a curiosity we can mention that it is believed that Walt Disney was born in Mojacar and was later adopted by a childless couple in the USA. Despite its popularity, Mojacar has escaped the wave of property developments seen elsewhere along the Spanish coasts. It is predominantly low-rise buildings, both on the playa and in the pueblo. In the village you will find narrow alley ways, lots of restaurants and recently the central view point was modernised. There you can sit and sip your drink while enjoying the stunning view over the landscape all the way towards the sea.

Along the beach there is a new build promenade and when it is finished it will go along the full 20-kilometre sandy beaches. There are restaurants and bars all along the promenade. Towards the southern part you will find Alberto, a popular ice cream café. The “other” Alberto is in Barcelona. Alberto is always full of Spaniards enjoying a coffee and an ice cream in the evening, but also other nationalities join sometimes. The road along the playa is divided into sections between roundabouts. That is also how the locals orient themselves; “we meet by the stables roundabout” or “let’s have coffee at the red cross roundabout”. Sometimes, Mojacar is named “little Ibiza” as there are many up and coming DJs visiting during the summer months. In August there is a big techno festival close by. But should you not be into techno music, peace and quiet is just around the corner. Even during the most hectic summer weeks, there is plenty of room on the beach. There are many alternatives should you be looking for a property for sale in Mojacar. The property prices are lower than in many other popular tourist areas and you can find a property for sale by the sea for a much smaller price tag than in other towns.
